As automation systems become more compact and connected, switchboard builders and OEMs are looking for ways to simplify wiring, save space, and maintain compliance while ensuring long-term reliability.
Phoenix Contact’s new M17 PRO hybrid connector, built to the new IEC 61076-2-117 international standard, delivers a new level of flexibility and compatibility in motor and automation connectivity.
It’s the first IEC-standardised hybrid connector of its kind, offering a compact, high performance 3-in 1 solution for transmitting power, signals, and data through a single connection.
The M17 PRO’s patented Oneclick fast-locking system allows installers to make secure, vibration-resistant connections with clear tactile, visual, and audible feedback. This simplified locking design reduces installation time by up to 70 percent compared to conventional methods, minimising errors and ensuring consistent, reliable terminations in demanding environments.
With a 15 percent lower installed height than standard M17 connectors, the M17 PRO helps engineers create cleaner, more compact control panels and modular machine layouts. It’s ideal for space-critical designs where every millimetre matters.
Designed for harsh environments, the M17 PRO achieves IP66 and IP68 protection ratings (tested 2 m / 24 h) and withstands currents up to 16 A and voltages to 630 V. Whether used in robotics, motor control, or decentralised drive systems, it maintains stable, long-term performance even under vibration, heat, or moisture.
Colour and mechanical coding ensure the 50 V and 630 V versions cannot be mixed, improving safety and reducing maintenance time. Because the connector is designed to the new IEC 61076-2-117 standard, it offers long-term interoperability and easier specification for future projects.
The M17 PRO supports straightforward daisy-chain wiring, allowing multiple devices to be connected in series without complex parallel cabling. That means less material, fewer terminations, and faster commissioning, helping engineers and OEMs reduce installation time and potential failure points.
